Not so good news for Red Lobster lovers: The popular seafood restaurant chain, has recently made headlines as it abruptly closed down numerous locations across the country. With restaurants shutting their doors in at least 27 states, the company’s decision to file for bankruptcy appears imminent.
As we previously reported, Red Lobster’s financial troubles have been brewing for some time now. Last month, the company began considering Chapter 11 bankruptcy as a means to consolidate its debts. This move was aimed at “restructuring” the company and finding a path towards long-term financial stability. However, recent reports suggest that Red Lobster is now expected to file for bankruptcy “as early as next week,” according to insiders who spoke with ABC News.
Since then, Red Lobster has already closed at least 99 locations nationwide. Tagex Brands, a company specializing in restaurant liquidation auctions, has been contacted by Red Lobster to handle the auctioning of items from closing locations.

One major setback for Red Lobster came in the form of its “Ultimate Endless Shrimp” promotion. Earlier this year, the restaurant chain faced criticism and substantial financial losses due to a misstep in this widely advertised campaign, the news outlet noted. A major investor attributed the promotion’s failure to the company’s financial struggles, further exacerbating Red Lobster’s financial woes.
Overall, the struggling economy and rising inflation rates have also caused many Americans to cut back on eating out with more conscious of their spending habits. As a result, consumers are increasingly seeking out restaurants that offer good value for their money. Fast-casual chains, which provide affordable yet quality dining options, have been gaining popularity in recent years. This shift in consumer preferences has placed additional pressure on traditional full-service restaurants like Red Lobster.
