Raven-Symoné Reveals She Rejected Disney’s Request To Make Her Character A Lesbian In “Raven’s Home”
In a new interview with her wife, Miranda Maday, on Straw Hut Media’s Pride podcast, actress Raven-Symone talked about her spin-off show, “Raven’s Home” and revealed that Disney initially approached with a special request. Raven shared that the network wanted her character Raven Baxter to be a lesbian in the new show but the star rejected the idea.
While speaking about the preparation for Raven’s Home which launched in 2017, the 35-year-old explained, “You know what, there was a conversation before the series started, and I was asked the question: ‘Would you like Raven Baxter to be a lesbian?’” Raven-Symoné explained. “And I said ‘no’. I said ‘no’.”
Raven-Symoné continued: “The reason I said ‘no’ wasn’t because I wasn’t proud of who I was, or I didn’t want to represent the LGBTQ+ community in any way. “It was because Raven Baxter is Raven Baxter is Raven Baxter. And there was no reason for me to change the human that she was in order to fit the actress that played her.”
Before concluding she added, “Like, I’m stereotyped for the rest of my life. Let’s just keep it 100. You know what I mean? If you ever see me in another character, you see Raven Baxter, and that’s just what the deal is. I think the one thing that differentiates me from her is now a lot more.”
The show follows Best friends Raven and Chelsea are together again and raising their three children under one roof! Raven’s 11-year-old twins Booker and Nia, and Chelsea’s 9-year-old son Levi, who all navigate a fun but chaotic household.
