Authorities reported 33-year-old Ibrahim Bouaichi arrived at Karla Dominguez’s apartment on July 29 where he shot and killed her after he was released from prison. Bouaichi had been on the run since Wednesday and was spotted by federal marshals. He attempted to end his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot and was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Bouaichi was indicted on charges of rape, strangulation, and abduction after Dominguez reported the sexual assault to Alexandria Police in October. 11 days after the rape, Bouaichi turned himself in and was held without bond. In April, his lawyers argued that their client should be released on a $25,000 bond despite being charged with six felonies and that it was impossible for Bouaichi to follow social distancing guidelines while remaining in jail. A month after his release, Bouaichi was arrested on May 9 after he slammed into a K-9 officer’s vehicle in Greenbelt but was released on May 11.

According to the New York Post, Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter said local authorities were unaware of his prior charges in Prince George’s County and would’ve revoked his bond.

Amid his arrest, Bouiachi’s lawyers expressed their condolences for both families and called it a tragedy.
