Rap Legends LL Cool J, Nas, Lil Kim, Fat Joe & More Break Ground On Bronx Point — An Affordable Housing Complex & Universal Hip Hop Museum Site In The Bronx
Today a few rap legends gathered in the Bronx, NY to break ground on the first phase of Bronx Point — a complex that will include permanent affordable housing and the Universal Hip Hop Museum. Of those that attended were: LL Cool J; Nas; Lil Kim; Fat Joe; Naughty By Nature; Grandmaster Flash; Slick Rick; Michael Bivins; EMPD, and more.
The legends were all joined by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, City Council Member Diana Ayala and other city officials. Speaking at the event, LL Cool J says, “Hip hop is one of those things that really gave my life meaning. It made me feel like I really could do something with my life.” Meanwhile, Nas says, “[Hip Hop] taught me more than schools taught me, believe it or not. I’m proud to be here in the mecca of hip hop, the Bronx.”

It’s reported that the $349 million mixed-use project, which sits along the Harlem River waterfront in the South Bronx, will deliver the aforementioned museum plus 542 units of permanently affordable housing to the Lower Concourse neighborhood, along with approximately 2.8 acres of public open space. The project will also host an array of cultural and community-focused programming — like the museum, an early childhood space run by BronxWorks, and outdoor science programming run by the Billion Oyster Project. Opening day for the museum will open in Fall 2023, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop.
