The suspect behind the triple shooting that happened on Monday afternoon in Midtown Atlanta, has been identified as Raissa Kengne.
As it was previously reported, the incident went down at a condo complex on West Peachtree Street where two people were shot. Then, another person was shot a few blocks away on Peachtree. Police officers as well as SWAT teams swarmed Peachtree Street with K9s near Colony Square following reports of an active shooter. While searching for Kengne through the city camera system, a surveillance shot eventually led to Kengne being located and arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. She was detained near the south baggage claim and police recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
The victims who died were identified as 41-year-old Wesley Freeman and 60-year-old Michael Shinners. The third shooting victim, Mike Horne, is in the ICU and will require additional surgeries, according to reports. So what made her do it? During a press conference, police said that it appears Kengne targeted all three victims. But a social media post provides more details about a possible motive. On her public LinkedIn page, she posted a fiery message a day before the shooting condemning building management. As pointed out by the @atlscoop, Kenge wrote her complaints stemmed from a case of alleged fraud involving a former employer. It read,
“Why I started my own consulting and accounting firm? 2/6 In 2021, I was retaliated against by my employer at the time BDO USA, LP. My home was broken into, my computers were hacked, and my phones were spoofed. I reported several violations of SEC U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regulations, PCAOB standards Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and AICPA AICPA standards within the IT audit engagements.
Wesley Freeman Wesley Freeman, CPA, CISA, CFE, CITP, the IT Audit Director, at BDO USA, LP BDO had had done a very bad job for more than 5 years. There were significant deficiencies and material weaknesses across all the engagements I was assigned to and was managing, which at the time were 50 % of the public clients and 85% of the private clients in the Southeast region.
“I was severely retaliated against and constructively discharged. My home was broken into. My life and my family’s lives were threatened – not only by BDO USA, LP, and its Partners and members of its senior management team but also by their clients. Clients actually threatened me in front of the IT Audit Principal, Scott Meier. Furthermore, DO USA’s employees and partners leverage their relationship with people living in my condominium in order to pursue retaliation at my home.
“If you are planning to move to a condominium, I would advise that you stay away from one managed by Beacon Management Services; they are not only incompetent but criminal as well.“
