Shak Edwards was opening up her business , Shak’s World, on  Dec. 3 around 8:45 a.m. when a random woman started yelling from her car window. Edwards said the stranger was screaming about unemployed white women and their rights. The lady just kind of drove up and screamed out the window that she doesn’t understand how I’m open when there are white women that fought for this country that aren’t working right now,” she explained.

After the woman parked her car, she approached Edwards aggressively and started attacking her. “That’s when I pulled my phone out (to record her) because I realized she was going to be coming at me,” Edwards says. “And then the video shows the rest. She punched me in the head a few times,” she continued.

The woman continued on a tirade where she accused two other women who defended Edwards of being members of the Taliban and told them to go back to their country.  She was later arrested after Edwards contacted police about the assault.

Edwards believes the woman was jealous about a black woman owning a business despite Shak’s World being open for only a year and she hosted a grand opening amid the lockdowns.

“She probably was upset that we opened, That’s what I got from it, that she was upset that we were even able to operate, especially with a Black business owner.”
