R. Kelly’s Legal Team Demands His Release After Scary Prison Overdose
R. Kelly’s attorneys are calling for his immediate release after an incident they say could’ve ended in tragedy.
According to an exclusive from AllHipHop, the singer was rushed to Duke University Hospital after allegedly being administered a dangerously high dose of medication while in solitary confinement at the North Carolina prison. His legal team claims it was so severe, he fainted on June 13 and had to be hospitalized for two days.
The 58-year-old, currently being held in isolation, was reportedly given more medication than usual by prison staff—a dosage that doctors later determined could have killed him. After observation at the hospital, Kelly was sent back to prison. But his lawyers aren’t letting it slide.

According to attorney Beau Brindley, the whole situation is suspicious — especially since it happened just two days after they filed a motion claiming prison officials were plotting to take him out.
“That means that, within two days of the filing of his motion, Bureau of Prisons officials administered an amount of medication that significantly exceeded a safe dose and caused Mr. Kelly to overdose, putting his life in jeopardy,” Brindley explained. “They gave him an amount of medicine that could have killed him.”

It gets even more concerning. Brindley says the incident has left Kelly deeply shaken. Now, he’s reportedly refusing to eat out of fear it could happen again.
He believes what happened wasn’t just a medical mishap… it was intentional.
Kelly is currently serving time in North Carolina for his convictions related to sex trafficking and racketeering. He was sentenced to 30 years back in 2022 and has continued to maintain his innocence. His legal team has filed several appeals and motions, arguing that his constitutional rights have been violated — and now they’re adding this latest scare to the list.
Despite the urgency behind the emergency motion, getting him out won’t be easy. The burden of proof is high, and federal courts don’t typically act quickly on claims like this unless there’s overwhelming evidence.
Still, Kelly’s lawyers say they won’t stop fighting.
