Questlove Blasts YouTube For Flagging His Own Music

As YouTube launched its new initiative — where they donate $100 million to black creators — The Roots frontman Questlove blasted the platform for continuously flagging him during his DJ sets for copyright infringement, including flags on his own music.

Responding to YouTube’s announcement on Twitter, Quest replied, “does this include not red flagging my dj sets? I’m not doing BTS numbers but I know djs are saving people from doing something self destructive in the night. the flagging is so bad I got warnings for playing my own music I created.”

In addition to Quest and other DJs and musicians being flagged for their own music, the platform has also blocked monetization for some accounts, including Hollywood Unlocked, for simply entertaining and educating viewers during the racial/social pandemic we are currently in. As YouTube plans to use this new $100 million fund to develop talent and shows, we hope they also address the aforementioned issues black creators are facing.
