Quavo Reflects on Saweetie Altercation That Was Caught on Video: “never once in a million years want to do any harm to any woman, period”
In a new cover story for GQ, Quavo looks back on the elevator fight between him and his ex-girlfriend Saweetie that went viral and led social media users to label him an “abuser.”
As we previously reported, last year, a surveillance video from inside an apartment complex elevator showed the former couple in a struggle over a box containing a video game console. Saweetie appeared to take a swipe at Quavo first before he grabs her by the arm, knocking her against the back elevator wall and both hitting the floor. Saweetie who broke up with Quavo around the same time the video went public said in a statement to TMZ, “This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on.”
At the time, Quavo replied to the allegations with a tweet that read, “I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.” Now, Quavo is speaking out about the elevator fight that almost hurt his reputation. He explained to the magazine that he “never once in a million years want to do any harm to any woman, period.” He added, “I don’t like what people think,” he told the outlet. “When they saw the elevator thing they thought it was abusive, something crazy.”
Quavo and Saweetie are both off the hook for their explosive elevator fight. At the time, law enforcement allegedly turned the case over to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, which declined to move forward in filing charges. The two have gone their separate ways since then.

Speaking about another rumored split, Quavo seems to adress reports that the Migos are splitting. He explained to GQ that it’s crucial for each member to build up their individual catalog as it only helps their longevity as a collective in the end.
“It was all about Migos, Migos, Migos. The three of us,” he said of the first chunk of Migos’ prolific run. “I feel like every group member has to establish themselves. Their own body of work. If not, you start losing members.” Quavo went on to explain that he sees himself as a “quarterback in life,” noting now is the time to make the right plays:
“I’m a quarterback in life,” he said. “But now that I want it, I’m just going to show you.”
