Drag queen Panda Dulce wrote in an Instagram post about several affiliates entering the San Lorenzo library on Saturday while wearing AK-47 shirts and shouting slurs such as “tranny”, “it”, and “pedophile.” During the ambush, Dulce was placed in a back office with security while a librarian contacted the Alameda Sheriff’s Office and the individuals were escorted out of the building shortly after. Dulce continued with the children’s story hour.
“[They] totally freaked out the kids. They got right in our faces. They jeered. They attempted to escalate to violence.”I eventually got out. I’m safe. I’ll be fine. Drag queen story hours have always seen protesters. And I’ve always received hate mail. But today hit different,” they continued.

According to Insider, the incident occurred just as GOP members around the country are creating laws to prevent children from attending drag shows. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wanted child protective services to investigate parents who were taking their children to drag shows.
“We have child protective statutes on the books,” the governor said. “We have laws against child endangerment. It used to be kids would be off-limits. Used to be everybody agreed with that. Now it just seems like there’s a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age-appropriate.”
The law targeting LBGTQ communities comes after a viral video surfaced on social media of children attending and participating in a family-friendly drag show in Dallas, Texas.
Activists were outraged about the latest legislation as it is seen as a way to justify homophobia and transphobia.
