Protests Spark Across North Carolina After Off Duty Deputy Runs Over & Shoots Jason Walker

Protests have sparked across North Carolina after an off-duty deputy shot and killed a black man who he claimed jumped on his pick up truck, however, witnesses at the scene claim the deputy hit the man with his truck and then fatally shot him..

“A male jumped on my vehicle and broke my windshield. I just shot him,” claimed deputy, Lt. Jeffrey Hash in the 911 call, “I’m a lieutenant with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.”

When he is asked by the dispatcher if the man is breathing, he responds, “He’s gone, ma’am. … No, ma’am, he is not. He’s gone.”

The sheriff’s office revealed on Monday that Deputy Hash has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Elizabeth Ricks, a demonstrator and witness, said that Walker was crossing the street when he was hit by the truck and then shot.

“I did not see anyone in distress. The man was just walking home,” she said.
