Protests Heighten In Minneapolis After Murder Suspect Shoots Himself On Camera
Protests grew in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday night after police reported that a wanted murder suspect shot himself on camera at the Nicollet Mall.
He was approached by police for a murder after a body was found at a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp on Wednesday afternoon.
Minneapolis police rep John Elder said that bystanders began to live stream the incident claiming hat the police had shot the man in the head. However, authorities released shocking surveillance footage that shows otherwise.
In the graphic video, a man in a white T-shirt, wearing a black backpack and a hat can be seen pulling an item under gis neck while police approach him. He pulls the trigger and falls as blood pours out.
“He appears to have seen officers approaching. He turned into a doorway of a building, produced a handgun, put it up underneath his chin. He then adjusted his stance, and shot himself underneath the chin closer to where it meets the neck,” Elder said.
Elder added that the footage was quickly released to “quell rumors and hopefully thwart civil unrest.”
As soon as officers approached the man they attempted to render life saving measures, however it was unsuccessful. Officers noted that police were not ‘involved in any use of force.’
