United States Attorney General Pam Bondi has confirmed that officials have arrested that protestor who allegedly “bit of the finger” of a federal agent following the ICE-related fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
On Saturday January (24), another ICE-related shooting took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This time federal agents fatally shot a man named Alex Pretti. Although, he was armed, and legally permitted to carry, he never pulled out or touched his firearm during interactions with agents. He only filmed them as he helped others protesting.
It was later reported that an HSI (Homeland Security Investigations) had his finger “bitten off” by another protestor in the streets. During a press conference in the evening, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters the incident occurred as a protestor arrived at the scene following the shooting.
Noem alleged hundreds of protestors blocked and assaulted federal officers after Pretti’s fatal shooting. She said, “We saw objects being thrown at them, including ice and other objects, and a rampant assault began and even an HSI officer agent’s finger was bitten off.”

Prior to Noem’s comments, on Saturday afternoon, Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, took to X and slammed a couple suspects arrested. She shared graphic photos of the federal agent’s bleeding finger, the tip of it in a medical jar, plus the photos of two detained protestors. Although she did not make clear which person in the images is accused, McLaughlin captioned the post:
“In Minneapolis, these rioters attacked our law enforcement officer and one of them bit off our HSI officer’s finger. He will lose his finger.”
White House officials have since reposted McLaughlin’s post. And over on Truth Social, President Donald Trump reposted a screenshot of the X post without an additional caption. Back on X, hours later, Attorney General Pam Bondi shared an update on the suspected finger biter. She wrote:
“The suspect who allegedly bit the finger off of an HSI agent in Minnesota today has been arrested and is in custody. I have directed my federal prosecutors to file charges for this HEINOUS assault on our brave law enforcement officer.”
