#ProtectBlackWomen Trends On Twitter After Megan Thee Stallion Opens Up About Shooting Involving Tory Lanez
On Thursday, the LA Times released a shocking article refuting Megan The Stallion’s claims that she got shot. It made the rapper quickly speak out to defend herself and explain what really went down last month. While speaking to fans on Instagram Live, Meg confirmed that rapper Tory Lanez was the one who pulled the trigger on her after a party in Hollywood Hills, Calif.
“Yes … Tory shot me. You shot me and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying,” the 25-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Megan Pete, said. “Stop lying. Why lie? I don’t understand.” Meg also explained that at the time of the incident she didn’t tell cops that Tory had a gun in the car or shot her because of her “fear of dying” by cops. “All this sh*t going on with the police? The police is shooting motherf*ckers for anything. “The police was literally killing Black people for no motherf*cking reason.”
Although her loyal fans believed her the first time she confirmed the news on Instagram, many were upset that other people tried to accuse her of lying. Fans were also disappointed to see the lack of support for Megan, which prompted that hashtag #ProtectBlackWomen. One Twitter user even shared an old video of Megan talking about the time she protected her ex who got aggressive with her. Another user said, “It kills me how as Black women, we can talk about our traumatic experiences and people can just decide we are lying. If @theestallion said that man shot her, then there should be no if, and, or buts from other BLACK WOMEN and men. #protectblackwomen.”
Check out with other Twitter users had to say:
This Megan situation is just fucked up….she’s living with trauma and physical wounds, scared of cops and medical staff who should be protecting her, protecting her attacker to SPARE him!!!!….just to be ridiculed and attacked on social media #ProtectBlackWomen
