Prosecutor Says Kim Foxx Engaged In ‘Substantial Abuses’ By Letting Jussie Smollett Go Free
The special prosecutor assigned to investigate the handling of the Jussie Smollett’s alleged hate crime case reveals that Chicago’s top prosecutor, Kim Foxx, engaged in “substantial abuses” by letting the actor go free.
“The [Office of the Special Prosecutor] did develop evidence that establishes substantial abuses of discretion and operational failures by the [Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office] in prosecuting and resolving the Initial Smollett Case,” said Dan Webb.

Chicago Police Department discovered that Smollett reportedly faked a hate crime against himself and he was arrested. However, the charges were soon dropped by Foxx’s office.
Chicago Judge Michael Toomin noted that the case had “unprecedented irregularities” and assigned Webb, a private lawyer, to investigate .
Webb added that Foxx needed to, “recuse the entire CCSAO and petition the court to appoint a special prosecutor. Instead of implementing the proper legal course to carry out the recusal once this defect was brought to their attention, the CCSAO and State’s Attorney Foxx made the decision to ignore this major legal defect seemingly because they did not want to admit that they had made such a major mistake of judgment regarding State’s Attorney Foxx’s recusal.”
Per Page Six, despite this Webb’s office found that Foxx commit any illegal acts but there were indications of abuse; including dropping the charges without cause, misleading and dishonest statements to the public and communicating with Smollett’s family during the criminal investigation.
