Prominent vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (aka RFK Jr.) has officially been confirmed as President Donald Trump’s Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
On Thursday (February 13), the U.S. Senate held a final vote on whether to approve Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the Health and Human Services Secretary.
The 52-48 vote arrives after a three-month battle seeking a confirmation to place Kennedy into Trump’s Cabinet.

Mitch McConnell Speaks Against Robert F. Kennedy Being Confirmed As Donald Trump’s Secretary of Health And Human Services
He received many votes from the Republicans, however, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) was the long exception, joining Democrats in protest. This, notably, due to McConnell’s childhood bout with polio, leaving him in strong support of vaccines.
In a statement, the polio survivor said:
“In my lifetime, I’ve watched vaccines save millions of lives from devastating diseases across America and around the world. I will not condone the re-litigation of proven cures, and neither will millions of Americans who credit their survival and quality of life to scientific miracles.”
In this position, RFK Jr., who has notably been vocal about his skepticism of vaccines, will oversee the nation’s nearly $2 trillion health portfolio. Before being nominated to the position by Donald Trump, RFK Jr. ran against him in the Independent Party. However, in August 2024, RFK Jr. suspended his election. As he criticized then-Vice President Kamala Harris, RFK Jr. officially endorsed Trump.
Two weeks after Trump won the 2024 race, he announced RFK Jr. as his Secretary Of Health And Human Services pick. RFK Jr., who became the leader of the Make America Healthy Again movement, will now oversee critical health insurance programs, the safety of America’s drug and food supply, and the response to infectious disease outbreaks — which will influence policies affecting every part of American life.
