A Japanese professor has invented a television screen that can dispense various flavors so the viewer can lick them off.

Professor Homei Miyashita of Meiji University says the invention works by mixing ten different flavors to create the taste of a food item that appears on the screen. Moments after, the flavor is dispensed on a film that slides onto the television screen. According to ABC 7 NY, Miyashita believes there could be endless combinations and it can teach people around the world about different types of food.
“I am thinking of making a platform where tastes from all over the world can be distributed as ‘taste content’. It’s the same as watching a movie or listening to a song that you like. I hope people can, in the future, download and enjoy the flavors of the food from the restaurants they fancy, regardless of where they are based in the future.”

The professor says he’s been talking to various electronic companies about producing the unconventional screen and wants to use the invention for apps as well.
