Late Sunday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed that Verdejo was being charged with kidnapping and carjacking resulting in death and intentionally killing an unborn child.

Verdejo is accused of punching Keishla Rodríguez in the face then injecting her with a syringe filled with an unidentified substance bought at a public housing complex, according to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI. It also alleges that he wired her arms and feet then tied a heavy block to her before throwing her off a bridge at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The complaint states that Verdejo then shot at Rodríguez’s body as he stood on the bridge. Sadly, Rodríguez was found in a lagoon near the U.S. territory’s capital Saturday, a couple of days after she was reported missing.

Rodriguez’s mother Keila Ortiz told reporters that she last heard from her daughter on Thursday when she was on her way to meet up with Verdejo at her home to show him the results of a pregnancy test. To note, Verdejo, 27, is married to another woman and has a daughter.

Puerto Rico’s Institute of Forensic Science said in a statement that she was identified Sunday via dental record. Neither Verdejo nor his legal team have commented publicly about the allegations.

As TMZ notes, Verdejo is 27-2 as a pro boxer and famously fought for Puerto Rico in the 2012 Olympic Games. If convicted on all counts, Verdejo could face the death penalty.
