President Trump said in a statement that his upcoming MAGA comeback rally will be a “celebration” in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

During an interview with FOX News‘ Harris Faulkner, President Trump was questioned if he intentionally planned his rally on Juneteenth, the holiday acknowledging the end of slavery. The rally will also take place in Tulsa, Oklahoma where hundreds of African-Americans were killed during anti-black bombings and attacks at Black Wall Street in 1921. Trump said in response, “No, but I know exactly what you’re going to say,” Faulkner further explain he had nothing else to add to his question.
Trump continued to add, “Think about it as a celebration. My rallies are a celebration. We’re going to Oklahoma and if you think about it relative to your question, think about it as a celebration, don’t think about it as an inconvenience. Think about this as a celebration.”

Faulkner emphasized that the holiday Juneteenth is significant to African-Americans but Trump continued to say his rally will be a “celebration.” His response comes after critics opposed the President’s plans to host the rally on a day to celebrate emancipated African-Americans and its location.
“The fact that I’m having a rally on that day, you can really think about that very positively as a celebration because a rally to me is a celebration. It’s going to be really a celebration and it’s an interesting date, it wasn’t done for that reason, but it’s an interesting date, but it’s a celebration.”
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement that the African-American community “is very near and dear in the President’s heart.”
