The White House made the big announcement on Twitter saying, Trump “made a commitment to donate his salary while in office,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham tweeted. Grisham added that he chose HHS to support “the efforts being undertaken to confront, contain, and combat #Coronavirus.” Along with the post, Grisham also tweeted a picture of a check written out by Trump to the Health and Human Services for $100,000.

This latest donation comes after trump faced criticism for his initial response to the outbreak. During a rally last week, Trump described concerns about the virus as a “hoax,” and then later said he was actually referring to the Democratic response to the outbreak. Â
As we previously reported, the novel coronavirus has killed more than 3,000 people, the vast majority in mainland China.
