The former police officer, Michael Oxford, was fired from the Gwinnett County Police Department after he was placed on desk duty from Tuesday’s incident. According to the New York Post, Oxford responded to a call about a damaged vehicle in Loganville and was informed by the caller that a group of people threw a bottle at her card, leaving an unidentified liquid stain on the vehicle. Officers identified Aytra Thomas after reviewing surveillance footage and Oxford approached her as she was sitting on her front porch.
He claimed it was difficult to speak with Thomas due to her daughter, Kyndesia Smith,22, and their friends shouting at him. Oxford also threatened to arrest Smith on obstruction charges if she didn’t stay silent as she told him she wasn’t going anywhere and “You’re on my property. We did not call you.” The video shows Oxford trying to place Smith under arrest as she stood behind her mother and he starts grabbing her while yelling to get on the ground. After she refused to follow Oxford’s order, he tased Smith as she fell into bushes under the porch.

In the initial police report, Oxford claimed the young woman kicked him and charged her with felony obstruction and simple battery against a police officer. She was released on Wednesday after posting bond. After the video reached millions of views on TikTok, Oxford was placed on desk duty then fired after an internal investigation was conducted.
“The investigation in this case has shown that Officer Oxford violated our policy and did not meet our core values. “We strive to conduct ourselves in a manner that promotes mutual respect within the community and our peers.”
