Police In Massachusetts Searching For Man Who Gave Out ‘COVID Hugs’ In Walmart

Police in Springfield, Massachusetts are now searching for man who gave out “COVID hugs” to random customers in the Walmart on Boston Road.

Officials at the Springfield Police Detective Bureau say the incident took place on August 15 around 7:10 p.m. and began with the suspect taking an item out of one his victim’s hand and giving him a hug. Afterwards, before laughing and walking away, he told him, “Just giving you a COVID hug. You now have COVID.” The victim says he’s a cancer survivor an had never seen the suspect before.

Local law enforcement also say that the suspect has done this to other customers and they are now looking to arrest him. While it’s unknown if he has tested positive for COVID-19 or not, he is facing charges or assault and battery, and making terroristic threats.

Additionally, surveillance footage from the store shows the suspect, a Black or Latino man, with short dark hair, wearing a black shire with the word “AERO” printed on the front, with  gray camouflage shorts, black sneakers and a black face mask.
