Police have identified the man killed by a Frontier Airlines plane after trespassing on the runway at Denver International Airport on Friday (May 8). On Tuesday (May 12), police identified the man as 41-year-old Michael Mott. His cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt and sharp force injuries. The manner of death was ruled a suicide.

Police said surveillance footage shows Mott trespassing onto the runway after hopping a security permitter fence. He then walked onto the runway and got sucked into one of the engines of the Frontier Airlines Airbus A-321neo jet. The plane was on its way to Los Angeles, California when it caught fire and had to evacuate its passengers and crew.

Man Killed By Frontier Airlines Plane At Denver Airport Had Lengthy Rap Sheet

According to police, Mott — who is believed to have been homeless — has been arrested over 20 times in Colorado, dating back to 2002 and including an attempted murder charge. According to online records, Mott’s rap sheet begins when he was just 17.

He was repeatedly arrested for minor infractions like shoplifting and underage drinking. However, his crimes turned more violent as he got older. In February 2005, he was arrested for attempted murder using a gun. He copped a plea to second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon. He was then sentenced to six years in prison. While behind bars, he was again charged with felony assault using a weapon.

Mott’s most recent arrest was for felony trespassing just one month before jumping the fence at Denver International. The Pueblo native was arrested on April 10 for first-degree trespassing and damaging property at a Colorado Springs home.

After initially resisting arrest, the Colorado Springs Police Department booked him into the El Paso County Jail. However, he was eventually released and over a month later, he trespassed onto the runway, allegedly killing himself.
