Now, as all of us know, the coronavirus has spread globally and has infected millions and killed thousands of people. Several states and countries around the world have ordered stay-home lockdowns to help slow down or even stop the spread of COVID-19. While many people seem to be following the rules, of course there are a few folks who refuse to listen.

However, during a televised address on Wednesday, Duterte emphasized the importance of respecting the quarantine guidelines while announcing that he has granted the military and local authorities permission to shoot those resisting the new measures and abusing medical officials. Duterte said in the broadcast to the nation’s 107 million residents: “It is getting worse. So once again I’m telling you the seriousness of the problem and that you must listen.”

He added,

“My orders to the police and military … if there is trouble and there’s an occasion that they fight back and your lives are in danger, shoot them dead.” Before concluding he asked: “Is that understood? Dead. Instead of causing trouble, I will bury you.”
