During the press conference, officials identified 62-year-old Frank R. James as the person of interest in connection to the mass shooting in a Manhattan-bound N train at the 36th Street station. As previously reported, the shooting took place around 8:30 a.m. during the morning rush hour. The suspect reportedly fired his weapon 33 times, injuring 10 people, and threw a smoke canister in the train car.
Around 5 p.m., officers located a U-haul cargo van on Kings Highway in Brooklyn after finding the rental key at the scene. They also recovered a 9-mm handgun, credit card, hatchet, gasoline, and three extended magazines as reported by Insider. James was identified as a person of interest after the credit card found at the scene was used to purchase the U-haul rental.

NYPD officials also noted James had several addresses listed in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. However, an investigation is currently underway as investigators are seeking his whereabouts. A witness also provided cellphone footage to investigators. Internet sleuths claimed they found a YouTube channel belonging to James.
Before he was listed as a person of interest, the suspect was described as a Black male who wore a green vest while wearing a gas mask. However, there were several conflicting stories about his height.
President Joe Biden said in a statement that he will not “let up” until the suspect is caught.
“We’re going to continue to stay in close contact with New York authorities as we learn more about the situation over the coming hours and days. And something could have broken between now and the last hour – I haven’t heard the news, I haven’t spoken with anyone on my staff – but we’re not letting up on it until we find out, and we find the perpetrator,”
