Peabo Bryson, known for his iconic Disney duets and R&B hits, has passed away at the age of 75. In a statement released by his family, they confirmed that Bryson “transitioned peacefully” around 5 p.m. on June 2.
“While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come,” the statement read. According to USA Today, Bryson had been receiving treatment after suffering a stroke two days prior to the announcement of his passing.
Disney Duets and Grammy Wins
Bryson became a household name through his unforgettable performances on Disney soundtracks.
He famously performed “Beauty and the Beast” alongside Celine Dion and “A Whole New World” from Aladdin with Regina Belle. Both songs won consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group in 1993 and 1994. They were also nominated for Record of the Year.
Beyond Disney, Bryson built a strong solo career in R&B. His hits included “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again” and “Can You Stop the Rain,” the latter earning a nomination for Best R&B Performance.
