A lot of professional athletes have superstitions that involve clothing. Some might wear a certain pair of socks or a certain sleeve that they feel gives them good luck! In a recent interview, the NFL superstar, Patrick Mahomes revealed his superstition which shocked some NFL fans.

While making an appearance on ESPN’s ManningCast with Peyton and Eli Manning during the Denver Broncos’ 24-22 win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback revealed he has been wearing the same underwear on game days since the start of his professional career. “First, my wife Brittany got them for me, so I’m not throwing y’all down, but I have to wear them,” Mahomes said when asked about the superstition. “At the same time, I threw them on that first season, we had a pretty good season that season.” He added, “I only wear them for game day though, so they’re not too worn down, they’re not like these nasty (underwear), I clean them.”

Of course him revealing this information raised a couple of eyebrows when it comes to hygiene but he did admit that he only washes them when his team loses a game, but if you watch NFL football then you know the Chiefs don’t lose too often. “I wash them every once in a while at least. I mean if we’re on a hot streak, I can’t wash them, you know? I’ve just got to keep it rolling. As long as we’re winning, I’ll keep the superstition going,” he added.

It seems like Mahomes lives by the old saying, ‘if it’s not broke then why fix it.’ According to his stats from this current season it seems like his lucky underwear has been working for him. Through nine games, Mahomes has passed for 2,442 yards on 334 attempts, tossing 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His 229 completions have resulted in a completion rate of 68.6%, which would be the best mark of his career if the season ended today, according to ESPN.

In terms of yards-per-game and yards-per-completion, Mahomes’ marks of 271.3 and 10.7 respectively would rank as the worst of his career, along with his quarterback rating of 73.0 and yards per completion.

Mahomes is pacing to throw for a season statline of 32 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and 4,612 yards. Assuming he picks up his pace in the coming weeks when Kansas City’s offense is on the field, Mahomes could still find himself in the MVP conversation later in the season.

#Socialites do you think it’s the underwear that keeps him and his team winning?
