One person has died and 21 more were injured by gunfire, including children, in a shooting after the Kansas City Chiefs parade and rally for their Super Bowl win.

In a new post to his X account Kansas Cuty Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes stated that he’s “praying for Kansas City.” As of right now, three suspects have been detained for investigation, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said at a media briefing Wednesday, calling the shooting a “tragedy.” Gunshot victims were transported to several hospitals in the area, including eight with “immediately” life-threatening injuries and seven with life-threatening injuries, according to Interim Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson.

Children’s Mercy Kansas City Hospital confirmed to ABC News it received 12 patients from the rally, including nine with gunshot wounds. As we previously reported, Kansas City police announced earlier this afternoon that they were working to release everyone from inside Union station. “We need people to exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims,” police said. “Many of you have footage of many officers securing union station, they are working to provide for the safety of everyone inside union station and expedite care of those injured.”

Paradegoer Arnold Sauther said when the rally ended the Chiefs went into Union Station, and fans followed the players to get autographs.

“Then, all of a sudden they all started running out, and you see all these policemen come running in there — and you knew something happened in the station,” Sauther told Kansas City ABC affiliate KMBC.

Witness Jennifer Wilbers told KMBC they heard gunshots and then took off running.

“We look over and there’s a guy next to us on the ground,” she told the station.
