Caren Elosua is taking Novo Nordisk to court, alleging severe side effects from the use of Ozempic, a medication prescribed for weight loss and the management of type-2 diabetes. Elosua’s lawsuit claims that the company was aware of the potential for the drug to cause significant gastrointestinal issues but chose to prioritize profits over patient safety.

According to TMZ, court documents reveal Elosua’s assertion that weight loss medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have been under suspicion for their potential to inflict serious harm, particularly to the stomach and gastrointestinal system. Despite these risks, Elosua was prescribed Ozempic for her type-2 diabetes in April 2021, starting with 1ml doses weekly, which was later increased to 2ml.

Around the end of 2023, Elosua began experiencing debilitating symptoms, including headaches, vomiting, cramping, and severe stomach pain. She underwent a stomach emptying test after speaking with a gastroenterologist, and the results revealed that Elsoua experienced gastroparesis, a condition characterized by weakened stomach muscles unable to digest food properly—a diagnosis that a second doctor confirmed.

Elosua’s legal claim highlights that her last injection of Ozempic was administered in late January. However, she alleges that by that point, the damage was irreversible. She claims to have been hospitalized due to unceasing abdominal pain, which she says has caused extensive damage to her stomach area. The main focus of her lawsuit against Novo Nordisk is the accusation that the company was aware of the “miracle drug’s” potential adverse effects on users’ gastrointestinal health but proceeded with its distribution to reap substantial profits. This decision, she argues, was made at the expense of her health and potentially the well-being of other consumers.

Elosua is now seeking significant damages from Novo Nordisk for the alleged harm caused by Ozempic. The lawsuit poses critical questions about pharmaceutical companies’ responsibilities to ensure the safety of their products and the extent to which they must inform patients about potential risks.
