Over 200 Palestinians Injured After Clash With Israeli Police Amid Eviction Protests
After another night of violence, over 200 Palestinians have been left injured following a clash with Israeli police amid protests for their eviction from east Jerusalem — which has been claimed by both sides in a decades-old conflict.
The clashes between the two groups, which broke out at the start of the holy month of Ramadan, have taken place at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound (the third holiest site in Islam) and are results of weeks of unrest around the city caused by police restrictions and threatened evictions of dozens of Palestinians. While it’s unclear what caused things to become violent, it first began after Israeli police in riot gear deployed in large numbers while thousands of Muslim worshippers held evening prayers at Al-Aqsa.

In retaliation, large groups of protestors reportedly hurled rocks, fireworks and other objects in defense of Israeli police firing rubber bullets and stun grenades. Among the 200 injured, at least 17 officers were wounded. The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service said over 88 people wounded were hospitalized. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry said 83 people wounded by the rubber bullets had injuries to their eyes, heads and jaws. It’s reported that the latest fight between Israelis and Palestinians is just beginning and they’re bracing for more days of unrest.
