Now, nobody knows if the aspirin Trump’s been popping has him feeling lightheaded or just reckless, but folks are convinced he completely lost his mind this Friday morning…
The president hopped on his Truth Social platform and shared a meme video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. Unsurprisingly, it sparked immediate and fierce backlash, with many calling the post flat-out racist.
Reacting to Trump’s latest low move, California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom wrote on X, “Disgusting behavior by the President. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now.” Another user added, “Donald Trump, the most openly racist president since slavery was abolished, just shared a video of Michelle & Barack Obama as APES. This is what the Republican Party is now.” A third said, “Trump reposting a video superimposing the Obamas’ faces on apes is undisguised racism. MAGA, when will you admit you voted for the wrong person?”
One user didn’t hold back, tweeting, “Trump has never really attempted to hide his racism before. But posting a clip that depicts the Obamas as apes is on a level that’s insane even for him. Wow. Unf—ing real.”
Meanwhile, the White House dismissed the backlash as fake outrage.
“This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King,” a spokesperson said. “Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”
Still, critics argue that no amount of spin can explain away imagery long rooted in racist tropes, and many say the post speaks for itself. As the backlash continues to spread across social media, one thing is clear: for a lot of people, this crossed yet another line in what’s becoming a very familiar pattern.
