Original CNN Anchor Bobbie Battista Dies At 67 After Cancer Battle

Original CNN anchor Bobbie Battista has passed at 67, after a four-year battle with cervical cancer, per family spokeswoman, Wendy Guarisco.

Battista’s husband, John Brimelow shares, “Bobbie was the consummate trooper in her struggle with cancer, she was courageous and fearless in her battle and thoughtful for all the others in her life even as she fought through the pain. My dear partner of 25 years of marriage has cut her earthly bonds and is now in peace.”

Furthermore, Battista joined CNN as one of the original Headline News anchors, now known as HLN, when the network launched in 1981. She also anchored other news programs at the network, like “TalkBack Live,” which aired live in Atlanta, before a studio audience. In 2001, she left, CNN, following the merger of parent company Time Warner and AOL.

Speaking on her 20-year career in 2001, Battista shared, “Whether the Challenger explosion, the assassination attack on Reagan, the Gulf War, certainly this terrorist attack. Those were memorable from the anchor desk. As far as TalkBack, we’ve had some serious shows, and some fun shows. If I had to pick, I’d say I liked Free for All Fridays the best.”

Battista leaves behind her husband John.
