Oprah Winfrey Buys Billboards Demanding Justice For Breonna Taylor In Kentucky

Oprah is determined to get justice for Breonna Taylor!

Just days after stepping off the cover of her magazine for the first time in 20 years to pay tribute to Taylor, Oprah is now making an even bigger move to get justice for her. According to Variety, the 66-year-old media mogul bought dozens of billboards to be erected around Louisville, Kentucky, where Taylor was killed by policemen in her home back in March.

It was said that Winfrey and the O magazine team purchased the billboards in an effort to shed light to Taylor’s story and to seek justice for her death. The billboards feature the same image Oprah included in her magazine: a yellow backdrop along with the words, “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged. Visit untilfreedom.com.” It also features a quote from the former talk show host saying, “If you turn a blind eye to racism, you become an accomplice to it.”

As we previously reported, Taylor an EMT, was just 26-years-old when she was killed on March 13 in her home in Louisville, Kentucky, by Louisville Metro Police. She and boyfriend Kenneth Walker were in their own home when police raided it. Officers who were looking for someone who had been taken into police custody hours earlier — had the wrong address. Sadly, Taylor was shot eight times. Only one officer was fired months after the incident, none of the officers involved have been arrested or charged.

While speaking about Taylor last week, Oprah said:

“Breonna Taylor. She was just like me. She was just like you. And like everyone who dies unexpectedly, she had plans. Plans for a future filled with responsibility and work and friends and laughter. I think about Breonna Taylor often. Imagine if three unidentified men burst into your home while you were sleeping. And your partner fired a gun to protect you. And then mayhem. What I know for sure: We can’t be silent. We have to use whatever megaphone we have to cry for justice. And that is why Breonna Taylor is on the cover of @oprahmagazine. The September issue honors her life and the life of every other Black woman whose life has been taken too soon. Head to OprahMag.com for more—and thank you to @alexis_art, a 24-year-old digital artist, who captured the essence of Breonna. The issue will be available wherever you buy or download magazines on 8/11.”
