Ahead of the full episode airing on Wednesday (December 13), teaser clips from Oprah’s sit-down on ‘Sherri,’ shows her being asked about her legendary career, her new remake of ‘The Color Purple,’ along with what’s next, including the TV and film icon passing the daytime TV torch over to Sherri Shepherd.

In one viral clip, Shepherd asked Oprah, “What does having this legacy mean to you?” Oprah responded, “Oh, Sherri, that’s such a beautiful question. The word, legacy, I just want to leave you all with this. When I came back from opening my school in South Africa and I said to Maya [Angelou], ‘Maya, I said the school is going to be my greatest legacy. Those girls are everything.’ And she said, ‘You have no idea. You have no idea what your legacy is going to be.’ Because she said, ‘Your legacy is never one thing. It’s every life you touch.'”

Oprah continued, “And I pass that on to you… Because what Maya said to me that day in her kitchen, she said it’s every audience member who ever came, and wherever they came from. They sat in that audience and they had an experience. And they went home and they decided, ‘I’m going to do better. I’m going to get a better job. I’m going to leave my raggedy husband. I’m going to do whatever I need to do.'”

She added, “It’s every life you touch. So it’s every life you touch. So it’s not one thing. For me to be able to see you, to sit in the seat of your life on your own show with your name on it, it is the passing on. It is the passing on.”

In clear shock at what she had just heard, Shepherd issued her gratitude and clarified, “Thank you so much! So you’re officially passing the baton on to me?” Oprah confirmed, “I’m passing the baton.” The two women then hold hands as Shepherd shakes in excitement and yells out an extended “Oh my god!”

Before Shepherd got her show, she was a co-host on the daytime talk show ‘The View,’ from 2007 to 2014. After leaving the show, she would continue to make several appearances on the show as a contributor throughout 2015 and 2016.

The series premiere of ‘Sherri‘ was on September 12, 2022, and in January 2023, the show was renewed for a second and third season through 2025.
