Britney Spears’ ex-fiancé, Jason Trawick, has commented on the singer’s conservatorship ending in late 2021, insisting that she needed to be under the court-ordered arrangement. The “Gimme More” chart-topper was infamously placed under a conservatorship back in 2008 following several meltdowns throughout 2007 and endless scandals that eventually saw her lose custody of her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden Federline.

The following year, she began dating Jason, and by 2011, the two announced they were engaged. Their romance, however, didn’t last all that long after he’d put a ring on it as the pair ended up calling it quits a year later. And while Jason, who works as a talent manager, has kept quiet about his relationship with Britney since their split, in a recent sitdown on Kevin Connelly’s podcast, the 51-year-old is convinced his ex needed to be supervised.

“Listen, did she need a conservatorship when I was there? Yes. I’ll be the first to say it,” he shared. “I think she needed some guidance.” He also believed that someone needed to take care of her finances after the singer had allegedly blown through a hefty amount while married to ex-husband Kevin Federline. “She’d be the worst person on The Price Is Right. She doesn’t understand what things cost.” But Jason stressed that she needed the conservatorship more than just for someone to manage her money.

During the time they were together, he added that there were other reasons why having her in a conservatorship was beneficial, such as preventing her from hanging out with people that were a bad influence on her well-being and having her attend regular therapy sessions.

And while her father, Jamie Spears, has received a lot of criticism for keeping his daughter under his thumb for 13 years, subsequently preventing her from living an ordinary life, Jason doesn’t doubt that Britney’s father only wanted what’s best for Britney. “Unless they can prove he somehow stole money from her,” he retorted.

With that said, Jason makes it known that he wishes Britney nothing but the best with her newfound freedom and is overall happy to see that she’s proving to people that she can fend on her own without having to ask for permission to do things. “If she fails, then she fails,” he said, “[But] I want her to prove [naysayers] wrong.”
