During the interview, Streisand admitted that the film was a success but hoped it would have included bigger stars including Will Smith and Beyoncé. She thought having them take on the big roles would have made the new film more “interesting.”

The 79-year-old explained, “At first, when I heard it was going to be done again, it was supposed to be Will Smith and Beyoncé, and I thought, that’s interesting. Really make it different again, different kind of music, integrated actors, I thought that was a great idea,” Streisand shared of the once-rumored casting. “So, I was surprised when I saw how alike it was to the version that I did in 1976.” Streisand went on to say that she, “thought it was the wrong idea” for the remake but that she “can’t argue with success” after it grossed $436m at the box office.

Gaga and Cooper’s debut went on to gross more than $436 million worldwide it took home the Oscar for best original song and many more accolades. But to Streisand, that’s not important.

She added: “[But] I don’t care so much about success as I do originality.”
