After a horrific weekend in Los Angeles, Volleyball star Kim Glass is speaking out to share how she was attacked by a homeless man and almost lost an eye!
Volleyball star Kim Glass explained that the incident happened on Saturday after she was leaving lunch with a friend at a restaurant in Downtown L.A. She said after she had exited the eatery, she noticed a man in the street with something in his hand.
“As I was leaving lunch, I was outside saying goodbye to a friend and this homeless man ran up. He had something in his hand, he was on the side of the car in the street, and he just like looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes and as I go to tell my friend I think something is wrong with him, before I knew it a big metal bolt like pipe hit me. It happened so fast, he literally flung it from the street,” she said.
“He just like looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes,” Glass said. “And, as I turned to go tell my friend, ‘I think something’s, like, wrong with him and I think he’s going to hit a car,’ before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like pipe, hit me right here.” She added, “It happened so fast.” The man who is said to be 37 years old threw the object at her from several feet away and it hit right into her eye socket and the bridge of her nose. Her eye is still visibly swollen shut, and her face was still bloodied. Glass said in the clips that she was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures and needed stitches to close wounds.

Thankfully, her eyes won’t be permanently affected despite the damage she has already. “Just be safe out there,” she said in her videos … “There’s a lot of mentally ill people on these streets right now and you shouldn’t have to be fearful when you walk but it’s true. And, so, you guys just be safe.”
What Happened To The Man?
The homeless man accused of throwing the object, was held him down until police arrived, according to Glass. The man, identified Monday as 51-year-old Semeon Tesfamariam, was taken to jail and was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed. He is being held without bail.
The incident occurred as Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is facing criticism and a recall effort over his approach to heavy crime.
Glass won a silver medal with the U.S. women’s volleyball team in 2008. She helped the team to gold medals at the 2011 Grand Prix and NORCECA Championship.
