The 21-year-old former influencer sat down with hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Norris for her first interview (ever) on Facebook Watch’s “Red Table Talk.” While speaking with the ladies, Jade admitted that “there is no justifying or excusing what happened, because what happened was wrong,” she said off the bat. “I think every single person in my family can say ‘that was messed up, that was a big mistake.’” As we previously reported, Jade had been pretty quiet during this big scandal involving her parents who paid $500,000 to William “Rick” Singer to secure Jade and her sister, Isabella Rose Giannulli’s admission to the University of Southern California.
During their conversation, Jade shared that she didn’t quite understand why what her parents had done was wrong at first: “When all this first happened and it became public, I remember thinking ‘how are people mad about this?’ In the bubble I grew up in, I didn’t know so much outside of it. And a lot of kids in that bubble, their parents were donating to schools and doing stuff … So many advantages.” She then admitted, ”A huge part of having privilege is not knowing you have privilege. So when it was happening, it didn’t feel wrong.” Jade, now considers herself “like the poster child of white privilege,” but says she’s embarrassed that it took a big scandal like this to lead her to realize it.
57-year-old Giannulli, reported to FCI Lompoc in November for his five-month sentence. Loughlin, 56, is currently serving a two-month prison sentence at California’s Dublin FCI and is expected to be out of the slammer in time for Christmas.
