Oklahoma Goodwill Employee Returns $42,000 Hidden Inside Sweaters, Receives $1,000 Reward
Andrea Lessing, a Norman, Oklahoma Goodwill employee, has received a $1,000 reward after returning $42,000 she found hidden inside two sweaters. It’s reported that Lessing was sorting through a pile of donations at her store when she felt something lumpy wrapped between two sweaters.
While suspecting to find books, instead she found stacks of cash. She says, “My first thought was that it was fake. We’ve seen $5 and $20 donated here and there, but never in my life had I seen that much money.” Lessing, who has a 6-year-old, says she didn’t think twice about whether or not to report the money, and wanted to show the importance of honesty. She says, “With every decision I make, I have to think about whether I would want my daughter to follow in my footsteps. I want her to know that kindness, integrity, and honesty can get you a lot of places in life.”
Along with the help of documentation on the donated items, Lessing and her higher-ups were able to track down the money’s owner, and was eventually rewarded $1,000, which she says “lifted a huge burden” off her shoulders. She explains, “Because of everything that’s been going on within the past year and a half, it just meant more than anyone could imagine. I didn’t return the money expecting a reward or expecting to be on the news, I just believe if you do something good, it will come back to you eventually. And it did.” #Socialites, would you have done the same as Andrea Lessing?
