After former NFL star Henry Ruggs was handed down a 3-10 year prison sentence in his fatal DUI crash, another former NFL star, O.J. Simpson, is reacting to the news. Simpson condemned the news and said the math ain’t mathing.

Back in November 2021, we first shared how the then-Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver had been hit with a DUI charge (his level was measured at 0.16 percent) after being behind the wheel of a Corvette that crashed and killed a 23-year-old woman named Tina Tintor and her dog.

A coroner revealed that Tintor died of “thermal injuries” on November 2, 2021 after Ruggs’ car hit her Toyota at 156 MPH, causing the car to go up in flames.

We then learned that Ruggs would be facing 50 years in prison after his first hearing. After missing a mandatory alcohol test, Ruggs was then ordered to wear an ankle monitor, which would measure his alcohol level 24/7.

In May 2023, the former NFL star accepted a plea deal in a Las Vegas courtroom and pleaded guilty to felony DUI resulting in death and a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter. Under the deal, he was now facing a minimum of three years in prison and a maximum of ten years.

Now as of Wednesday (August 9), Ruggs was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison for the fatal DUI crash. While being sentenced, Ruggs took the time to apologize to Tintor’s family saying there was “no excuse” for his actions.

He said, “To the parents and family of Ms. Tintor, I sincerely apologize for the pain and suffering my actions the morning of November 2, 2021 have caused you, your family and those who knew Ms Tina and Max. I let my family, my teammates and those who believed in me down with my actions and hurt so many.”

Following Ruggs’ sentencing update, another former NFL player, O.J. Simpson is reacting.

Taking to social media he said, “I know I went to college on a football scholarship. But somehow, this math is not adding up to me. You’re driving a car at roughly 160 miles per hour on a public street and end up killing a girl and her dog and you get 3-10 years? You go to a hotel room that you’re invited to to retrieve your own personal, stolen property … property I now have because it was ruled to be mine by the state of California … and you get 9-33 years? Same courthouse, same city, same state. I don’t know. Somehow it just does not add up to me. I’m just saying.”

Now, O.J. Simpson was recalling his 2008 sentencing of 33 years in prison (with the possibility of parole after 9 years) in connection to a 2007 armed robbery case in Las Vegas. At the time, Simpson went into a hotel room at the Palace Station, with a gun in hand. He said he was trying to recover memorabilia that belonged to him. In 2017, he made parole and is now a free man.

However, several people believed that Simpson received a harsh sentence for this case as a way to punish him for evading consequences in the deaths of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. More than a decade prior, he’d been acquitted of their murders, despite heavy public opinion believing he was guilty.
