Ohio Teen Drowns In Frozen Lake While Saving Younger Brother

After they both fell into a frozen lake, an Ohio teen has died while saving her brother. It’s reported that an officer who responded to the drowning incident also died.

The 16-year-old girl, identified as Keaira Scott, has passed after she and her 13-year-old brother fell through ice near a boating dock at Rocky Fork State Park in Hillsboro on Tuesday evening (Feb. 23). Upon arrival by the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District, the girl was under the ice. Lt. Branden Jackman added that the water was 36 degrees.

While the boy was rushed to the hospital in stable condition and diagnosed with hypothermia, divers weren’t able to save his sister, who they eventually recovered, unresponsive. Jackman says, “She got him out, before she succumbed.” Meanwhile, a responding official, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Officer Jason Lagore, a 15-year veteran and K-9 expert, had also suffered a medical emergency and was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died. Details on his emergency haven’t been made public.
