Ohio police department released bodycam footage of the moment a pregnant woman was shot and killed after Kroger employees accused her of stealing alcohol.
As we previously reported, Ta’Kiya Young was shot by an officer through the window of her car in the Kroger parking lot. Her unborn daughter did not survive. Police Chief John Belford spoke out about the incident and claims Young and a several other people were stealing from the store before the shooting took place. Two officers happened to be in the parking lot already because they were helping someone who was having car troubles, but then an employee allegedly ran out of the store and told them that they seen Young stealing from the store and pointed to her as she was getting in her car. Officers approached her car and that’s when the devastating moment took place.
Officers then walked over to Young’s car and one driver was reportedly on her driver side and the other officer stood in front of her car. At this point, Belford says the officers ordered Young to get out the car but she refused and put her foot on the gas and the car went towards the officer who was standing in front of her vehicle. And that’s when the officer fired one shot that went through her window and hit her.
Police reportedly ran about 50 feet to chase the car because after the officer let off his one shot, Young continued to drive until the car crashed near the front of the store. According to the report, Young locked herself into the car and officers couldn’t get inside to give her aid. A passerby also happened to be an emergency room doctor, who assisted police until paramedics arrived and transported Young to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

“Every loss of life is a tragedy,” Belford said in his video statement. “The family of the woman who died is understandably upset. I’ve spoken with a member of the family, and I will continue to keep them informed about what’s happening.”
According to CNN the officer who was seen on the driver side of the car has returned back to work, but the officer that let off the shot is still under investigation.
Why would a pregnant woman be stealing liquor? And from a Kroger?? Smh. I don’t think that makes sense…
Some pregnant women drink, unfortunately. She tried to kill the officer with her car. That’s why she died.
His partner should shoot the car tires first………. before he aims a gun at someone. That car not going nowhere.
Officer didn’t have to stand in front of the car!
Why does anyone steal? Pregnant women are no exception. Women don’t become better people because they are pregnant.
And all kinds of people steal.liquor from Kroger and everywhere else it is sold.
Thier story make absolutely no sense!! I’ll put money on it that the video was altered, otherwise they would have released it promptly. If a person is shot while behind the wheel of a car, more than likely their foot is on the gas pedal, which increases the chance of them pressing on the gas pedal as their body “reacts” to the instant pain. What you don’t see is anything about the “alcohol” she “allegedly” stole. Did it magically disappear? Now, in earth’s court, and mostly definitely God’s, all those who’ve had a hand in this tragedy will be held accountable!!
Sad that she didn’t comply. Trying to run over a police officer will definitely get you shot. No respect for authority. She threw her life and the life of her unborn child away. Stupid stupid stupid.
Don’t speak so soon until or unless you see the footage for yourself! The so called authorities lie also they probably just ain’t get to you yet!
Agree….Total lies. They Also….. should have shot the tires!!! You just do not point a gun at someone for stealing anything. Even a TV. By state law……I worked in retail and NO employee is going to tell 2 civilian dressed police officers about an emergency alcohol thief. There are protocols. THE STORE Security has to call it in. PLUS never take their eyes off the women and follow her out to the car. They have to by law have eyes on her right after they saw her put it in her purse or whatever. And keep eyes on her at all times ( This is to make sure that she did not put it back) It is a law. or she can sue for harassment.
And if all of a sudden 2 guys Dressed like normal people, surround my car enough to stop me from leaving. I would not open my car door either. PLUS They would have stopped her before she got in the car. And why did they have their guns? If they were on paid leave they would not ear a uniform. and do cops wear the camera while on leave? And the proper wording is “OFF DUTY” They are not in the military. Once the gun came out of the holster you take care of the threats. Like a car moving before the person.
Did you know that a policeman cannot ask to see what is in your purse OR pockets,,,,,EVEN your car. They have to have a warrant ! and they have to bother a judge…. to get it. So NO COP is going to harass a girl in her car by surrounding it to the point she cannot leave. And it is 2 normal dressed men . She does not know that they are OFF DUTY cops.
She could sue this states police force. And she will win because they had guns on them and they were off duty….. ( Not on leave. they are not the military.
Commen sense people………YOU SHOOT THE TIRES ////// ONCE A FIREARM IS OUT OF THE HOLSTER AND UNLOCKED. You decided the threat and it was the car!!!!!
