According to court records, on June 1, a grand jury in the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas voted to indict 27-year-old Jessica Houze. She was subsequently charged with two counts of fifth-degree felonious assault and one count of fourth-degree misdemeanor trespassing after being accused of macing a primary school principal and attacking the assistant principal.

Per Lorain County law enforcement officials and officials with the Elyria City School District, on April 18 around 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to Hamilton Elementary after receiving a call about a disturbance at the school involving a parent.

Upon their arrival, officers were told that both the principal, Joel Melvin, and the assistant principal, Katie Huff, had been sprayed and hit with mace, and that the subject, later identified as Houze, had fled the scene.

When the officers met with the school’s principals, they learned that prior to the macing, the principal was greeting students in the hallway when he saw, by the side door of the building, a female parent cussing and shouting at the school’s assistant principal and another school staffer.

During the confrontation, the female assistant principal was trying to keep the parent from entering the school. When the principal came to the area, he recognized who the parent was, and later told police that Houze allegedly began cussing at him and said, “that’s the guy I want.”

At that moment, the principal claimed that he tried to pull the doors closed and keep Houze out of the school, as she had allegedly switched her keys, with mace on it, from her right hand to her left hand, and began spraying the principal in the face, and attacking the assistant principal, before fleeing the area.

Speaking out after the incident, Houze tried to clear her name and reveal what led to the altercation. She claimed that her son, who has autism, was being bullied and hit on the school bus by other students.

She claimed that the latest incident was not the first and that she was frustrated with school officials not stepping in. So, she took matters into her own hands to confront the head of the school for justice.

  1. I’ve been trying to find other black mothers who experience this I went through it all year with my kindergartner they even sent him home on the bus with his will chair leaning over the entire ride home n he can’t talk fluently to explain everything but definitely expressed experiencing bullying and being disciplined for things out of his control due to his disability

  2. ignorant. how will that solve anything? no womder kids these days just pick up a gun to solve their problems – this is the kind of role model they have. Everyone in this country needs some sort of anger management therapy – freaking ridiculous but, totally expected at this point – people have become greedy and narcissistic and claim victimization every single minute of the day. No one takes responsibility for their actions. I guarantee you her kid will either be killed or will kill someone before the age of 20.
