Officials Fight To Bring Haiti’s First Lady To Miami As She Is In Critical Condition
Haiti’s first lady is currently in critical condition following the assassination of her husband, President Jovenel Moise. Officials are currently pushing to have her evacuated to Miami for treatment and safety.

“She’s stable but in critical condition,” Ambassador Bocchit Edmond said to reporters. “Efforts are being done now to take her to Miami to be treated,” per Reuters.
Martine Moïse’s injuries have not been publicly released, but she is being treated at a local hospital before her transfer to Miami.
“The First Lady was wounded by a bullet and the necessary measures are being taken,” Prime Minister Joseph said in a statement.
As we reported, Prime Minister Claude Joseph said that Moïse was killed by an unidentified group, calling the attack an “inhumane and barbaric act.” Some of the attackers were described as Spanish-speaking. To note, the main languages spoken in Haiti are Haitian Creole and French.

Moïse has served as Haiti’s president since February 2017. The country was due to hold a general election in 2019, but they were postponed. The election is due to take place in September 2021. He was just 53 years old.
