The manner of his death was ruled a homicide.
“The most cowardly thing you can ever do is shoot a person from behind when they’re not posing any threat of harm or violence to you,” said family attorney Ben Crump.

Previously, Pasquotank District Attorney Andrew Womble claimed that unreleased body-cam video showed Brown trying to run officers over as he attempted to flee, however, his family disagree and are calling for the full footage to be released to the public.
“Mr. Brown’s death, while tragic, was justified because Mr. Brown’s actions caused three deputies to reasonably believe it was necessary to use deadly force to protect themselves and others,” Womble said.
