Officer Who Shot & Killed Ashli Babbitt Inside Capitol Is On Administrative Leave

The unidentified Capitol police officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt, a 14-year Air Force veteran and MAGA supporter, during the U.S. Capitol riots has been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation.

On Thursday (Jan. 7), Chief of Police Steven Sund announced the move one day after Babbitt, 35 and an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump, was fatally wounded as she and hundreds of other rioters stormed the Capitol with metal pipes, chemical sprays and other weapons.

As the rioters attempted to force their way into the House Chamber, where members of Congress sought refuge, an officer fired a shot that hit Babbitt in the neck, leading to her death. It’s stated that the officer involved will remain on leave pending an investigation by the Capitol Police and local police department in Washington, D.C.

As we reported, Babbitt’s husband identified her to San Diego news outlet KUSI, noting she was a 14-year Air Force veteran and had served four tours with the agency. Her husband added that she was “a strong supporter of President Donald Trump and a great patriot to all who knew her.”
