As we previously reported, O.J. Simpson died age of 76 on April 10. Weeks later, the official cause of his death.
At Simpson’s family shared the news of his death on X (formerly Twitter) on April 11, a day after his passing. The tweet read, “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
Around that time, reports stated he died from cancer.
Now his lawyer is confirming that the former Hall of Fame football player and acquitted murderer succumbed to metastatic prostate cancer. Simpson had been in a battle with cancer since revealing his diagnosis in May 2023. Despite his hopes of overcoming the disease, cancer proved relentless. “He thought it had beaten it,” His longtime lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, said to PEOPLE. “I thought this was done, but you know how cancers go. They come back, and they come back with a vengeance.”
The former Buffalo Bills’ star was cremated in Las Vegas, in accordance with his wishes and those of his children. LaVergne, also the executor of Simpson’s estate, oversaw the process and confirmed that Simpson’s brain was not examined.
