According to the Daily Mail, police officers showed up in riot gear to arrest Derrick Ingram for allegedly assaulting an NYPD officer and investigators claimed he used a bullhorn to scream in her ear during a demonstration on June 14. However, over 100 protestors showed up in front of Ingram’s Hells Kitchen apartment and screamed at the officers to leave the area for six hours. Ingram stated the officers were not allowed into his home because they didn’t have a warrant to enter his home and denied the allegations.

Ingram is the co-founder of social advocacy group Warriors in the Garden and documented his experience via Instagram live. In the videos, you can hear police officers banging on his door with dogs in the hallway. Outside of the apartment building, there were over two dozen police vehicles.

Hours after the standoff, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea ordered the officers to retreat around 1 pm. On Saturday, Ingram and hundreds of protestors marched to Midtown North Precinct so he could turn himself in.

NYPD Sgt Jessica McRorie said Ingram got into a struggle with a female police officer who told him not to cross a police line during a demonstrated then yelled in her ear. McRorie says the incident caused “pain and a protracted impairment of hearing.” He was charged with second-degree assault but was released by a judge that same day.
