After Drake fans took to Twitter to criticize the NYPD and Eric Adams for videotaping people as they exited the show, the NYPD explained to TMZ that the video was recorded on the officers’ phones for a social media post to demonstrate how police officers work alongside venue security to keep concertgoers safe. Furthermore, the officers are part of the NYPD’s community affairs division and are not affiliated with the detective bureau or investigate crimes.

The Apollo Theatre is also surrounded by surveillance cameras, and Mayor Eric Adams issued a statement about the situation.“And I encourage all of my commanding officers to be creative on how we engage with our residents. That was a safe event,” he said at an unrelated press conference in the Bronx on Monday.

A fan also fell off of a balcony during Drake’s performance on Sunday but the theatre said in a statement that they received medical attention immediately.

”Unfortunately, last evening an incident occurred with an audience member who landed in the orchestra from the lower mezzanine. Drake, Apollo and SiriusXM halted the show immediately when learning of a potential fan injury and standard protocols were taken. They were seen immediately by EMS on site. The fan and other audience members reported that they were ok. No major injuries have been reported. The Apollo is investigating the situation further.”
