Adams called for the end of promoting drill music a day after he gave a speech about 18-year-old drill rapper Chii Wvttz, who was killed last Sunday in Brooklyn. During the press conference, Adams exclaimed that he didn’t know about drill music but was introduced to the genre by his son, Jordan Coleman. Coleman is an employee at Roc Nation and Adams claimed his son showed him several videos that reportedly promoted violence.

He wants to meet with social media companies to have the music videos permanently removed from the platforms and said it would be irresponsible to continue promoting them. He also compared the situation to Twitter banning former President Donald Trump for his content.

“We pulled Trump off Twitter because of what he was spewing. Yet we are allowing music [with] displaying of guns, violence. We allow this to stay on the sites. We are alarmed by the use of social media to really over-proliferate this violence in our communities. This is contributing to the violence that we are seeing all over the country. It one of the rivers we have to dam.”

Adams said he wants to meet with leaders from the hip-hop community to discuss further the promotion of violence.
